My New India Videos

These were made in 2025 from video clips made between 2004 and 2015
during my visits to Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati,South India (1982 - 2015).

I stayed in the SV University guest house on the road between Tirupati and Chandragiri, Chittoor and Bangalore.
From the guest house I walked to the rural area opposite the guest house towards the hills to the north, to the dairy farm and to the farmland around the village of Mallepalle, a part of the large village of Thumulagunta.

Over the years I become the village photographer and made many friends there. They came regularly to the guest house and so feature in many of the videos. They came into my room calling "Password" (for my laptop) and "photo", and "video".

On most days I walked down to the town (or went by auto), my favourite places being Balaji Colony, Ghandi Road, Netaji Road and the Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple (See map).

Rural Tirupati 2004

Trip  from Guest house, down Thumulagunta main road; past Mallepalle  (‘my’ part of
Thumulagunta' ); turn right on Upparapalle road, past Upparapalle over Tirupati bypass road and the village of Ramanajapalle towards Golapalle into the countryside approaching the hills South of Tirupati. The walk climaxed with a lengthy encounter with the children of Upparapalle. . (see map)

Mallepalle games 2014

I made this video during my annual visit to SV University in Tirupati, India. In this clip We are in Mallepalle, a small part of Thumulagunta.
The Frisbee was a little gift from England.
The main players are Bharath (Balu) (brown shirt) Bobby (red shirt) and
Madhu (blue shirt). As usual when they know they are being filmed they start to dance.

Mallepalle welcome 2010


I was always welcomed enthusiastically by my young friends in Mallepalle ('my' part of Thumulagunta). Honey Shree cycled up first, followed by Madhu then Mounish on the back of his friend's bike. Mounish mocking himself with "one photo sir". Then Honey Shree bullies Mounish and his brother into a posed picture.

Guest house dances 2014

My Mallepalle friends dancing in my room in the guest house of SV University. The dancers are Bharath (Balu), Manoj, Madhu and Dinesh. The music is trad jazz played by the Preservation Hall Jazz band, and a Cajun song sung by my friend Susan Penny.
Note: This is a long video because the music is so wonderful.

Temple visit 2015
A visit to the Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati town cente. I started in Ghandi Road. From there I went by G car street into the small road (Sannidhi street) that leads under the gopuram to the temple. This road is lined with stall selling items mainly related to the temple (especially 'pictures' of the god. I paused beneath the gopuram and then into the relative peace of the temple forecourts.

Tirupati Rail Crossing 2010 

This is the level crossing on the road that passes the SV University Guest House, There was always a noisy competition to across before the barriers completed their descent. Then after the thrill of the a passing train a further competition to be first across.

Mahabalipuram 2005 to 2010

Mahabalipuram (now Mammalapuram) is a fishing village 56 Km south of Chennai. I made many visits to acclimatize or recover at the beginning and end of my visists to SV University in Tirupati. These clips are from three visits (2002, 2009 and 2010)

SV Music and Dance college 2011

The college is near Balaji Colony on the way from SV University to Tirupati town centre. The students practice outside where it was cooler. They invited me to join in on drums but I made this video instead. Click here for video.
